Applications are invited for one postdoctoral position in Mathematics within the Research Training Group Energy, Entropy, and Dissipative Dynamics (EDDy) at RWTH Aachen University (Germany),
starting January 2023 or as soon as possible.
The postdoctoral researcher supported by the RTG will have an outstanding research and training opportunity. Positioned at the cutting edge of hot topics in applied and numerical analysis related to energy, entropy, and dissipation, the postdoctoral researcher will jointly identify and tackle problems in consultation with the PIs. They will explore questions that are close enough to their doctoral training to get off to a good „running start,“ but far enough away from their past training so that they will develop a new and significant research direction. The goal is to prepare the postdoctoral researcher for a future academic post.
The position is funded by German Research Foundation (DFG).
We are looking for a highly motivated, excellent candidate with strong mathematical skills and interest in applied mathematics. Applicants must hold a university degree (Master or equivalent) and a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related field. Knowledge in numerics of hyperbolic or kinetic equations, and/or other relevant areas as outlined on the RTG website is required, as is fluency in both written and spoken English.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
The postdoctoral researcher will carry out excellent research in the areas of the RTG with focus on numerics and network with other scientists in Germany and abroad. They will also participate in the training activities of the RTG, where their role will be symbiotic: On the one hand, they will further develop their own knowledge and skills; on the other hand, they will offer advice, encouragement, and a positive role model to the doctoral students.
Applications must be written in English or German and should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
containing in a single .pdf-file the
- cover letter explaining motivation,
- curriculum vitae,
- summary of Ph.D. thesis.
Additionally, two letters of recommendation by senior scientists, commenting on the applicant’s qualifications, should be sent directly to the email address above.
Applications can be submitted anytime.
Women and members of other underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of two years.
An extension to three years is envisaged.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
