MINT-L4@RWTH stands for "MINT-Lehrer Lernen LebensLang" , corresponding to "LifeLong Learning for STEM teachers at RWTH Aachen University". It is the name of a competence centre founded towards the end of 2012, which acts as a pivotal point of contact for all those interested in the acquisition and training of STEM students as well as the further education and support of STEM teachers by RWTH Aachen University. In addition, it supports the university’s efforts to ensure excellent teaching by educational competence in the STEM fields.

As such, the competence centre is dedicated to:

  • the acquisition of highly qualified and committed students for STEM teacher training and for STEM study programmes in general (acquisition),
  • all interdisciplinary aspects for an optimum training of STEM teacher trainees during their studies, and special support measures for these students (training),
  • an essential contribution by the university to lifelong training and support of STEM teachers (continued education) and
  • the scientific monitoring of bridge courses, freshmen programmes and support measures for students of the engineering and natural sciences before or at the beginning of their studies (successful studying).

Moreover, the competence centre pays special attention to maintaining and disseminating gender equality in STEM training.
