Gender and Diversity
An innovative and spirited approach, openness and a positive attitude towards people from all walks of life: That is the basis for working at the Department of Computer Science at RWTH Aachen University – whether in research, teaching, service or during studies.
Of particular concern for us are the promotion of womens' careers as well as the implementation of equal opportunity employment. The Department of Computer Science and its affiliated institutions provide a range of events and other offers in this regard.
At the “PromotionsCafé” topics and questions are discussed that go beyond the “regular” academic sphere, namely matters such as career planning, career prospects, gender issues and more.
Doctoral candidates are invited to attend in particular, but the events are open to everyone interested.
The current dates are available at the link below.
go4IT! – Robot Workshop for Female Pupils
go4IT! is a perfect complement to the offers provided for pupils at school. Twelve to fourteen female 6th and 7th graders have the opportunity to participate in a two-day robot workshop free of charge. This is organized by the RWTH Aachen Department of Computer Science but takes place at their own school. Highlight of the workshop is the presentation of the joint group project on the second day; this is when all the groups' different robots complete synchronized motion sequences that have been coordinated beforehand.
During Girls’Day, girls from 5th to 10th grade have the opportunity to see what a typical work day looks like for a computer scientist. In workshops, exciting topics from the field of computer science are dealt with by first learning about the theoretical background and then applying that knowledge in a real-world context. A tour of the IT-center, a demo related to current research, as well as a visit with a professor round out the day.
Kids and Research
The "KiWi” room, which has been awarded the rating “family-friendly” by the city of Aachen, allows students and staff who are parents of young children to utilize the Computer Science Library without having to worry. In these rooms, parent and child are provided with workspaces, a children’s play area with a changing table, as well as a comfortable place for mothers to nurse their babies.
Students with Disabilities or Chronic Illnesses
RWTH Aachen provides a range of offers for students with disabilities or chronic illnesses to make their everyday lives at university easier or to make their studying here even possible in the first place.
